We don't have to tell you: Summer is wedding season.
But with the costs of weddings soaring to never before seen heights, we often get clients coming to us asking how they can cut corners and lower some costs. Today, we'll tell you how you can cut costs on your flower budget without sacrificing your aesthetic.
Tip #1: Always use flowers that are in season.
No one expects you to know every flower by name or whether its in season or not. But that is the job of your florist! Be sure when discussing options with your florist that you are open to "in season" variants of your favorite flowers. Show your florist that dream bouquet you pinned, and ask if what you like is in season for your wedding time, or if she can make something like it with what is in season. Buying flowers that are in season are just like buying fruits or veggies in the supermarket that are in season: there is much more to choose from, it will be much more healthy and robust looking, and it won't cost a million bucks because it didn't have to be shipped from another country.
Tip #2: Opt for More Greenery, Less Flowers.
Have you checked pinterest lately? Green garlands for the reception tables are in! More and more brides today are opting for lush green garlands running down the center of the tables, instead of large floral arrangements. For a heavier look, opt for eucalyptus as your greenery of choice. If you want a lighter, springier look, try a few vines of small ivy.
Rather have something with more height on your reception tables instead of garlands? Try using multiple pretty clear glass vases with a single earthy and wild large green sprig practically growing out of it. We guarantee it will give your wedding a fresh, clean, modern look while still giving off an organic, magical, overgrown kind of vibe. Your guests will love it! And the best part, it will cost you a lot less in your flower budget!
Or if you're a super creative and different bride try something totally unique and opt out of the flower game in general! Try something new like fruits or tangerines or lemons or pomegranates!
Tip #3: Go Green for Your Bridesmaids.
Today, many brides have anywhere from 5 to 14 bridesmaids. Paying for that many floral bouquets can add up. Instead, try going floral for yourself, but opt for more "green" bouquets for your ladies! Whether you choose to go with just greenery for your girls, or mostly green with just a few small flowers or wildflowers, it will surely cut back the cost of your floral budget. Added plus: it will make you, the Bride, stand out even more!
Tip #4: Make Your Bridal Bouquet More Earthy, Less Structured.
We have to be honest here--we are more partial to the organic, bohemian bouquets ourselves. (It's part of the reason we went into this industry!) We were tired of the "bland" and overdone structured bouquets of the past. Instead, we at Willow & Wine prefer the organic look of flowers the way they were designed to be: surrounded by greenery, and soft & billowy as if they were just floating in the bouquet. We love it when our brides share our aesthetic and seek a bouquet that looks natural and authentic. There's something sexy about natural beauty--can we get an amen! But not only is it beautiful, it also will cost less if your bouquet is made with greens and flowers as opposed to a tight bouquet of flowers only. More earthy means less flowers. (If you haven't guessed it by now: flowers cost much more than greenery.)
If you were to do all these things, we promise, you could potentially cut your wedding budget for flowers by almost half!
