It's Labor Day this weekend, which means some of us might already be mourning the loss of the sun and warm weather and long nights, BUT nothing honors Labor Day Weekend more than packing the days with the best "Cheers to You Summer" outings. So tag your BF, slyly drop this list into his DM's, or even grab a lady friend and go for a celebratory girl's night. We've got your best last NYC summer date night hurrahs on lock.
1. Rooftop Bar Date Night
Nothing, and I mean nothing, says summer in NYC like the rooftop bar scene. I mean, hey, we only get 3 good months of the year where our skin can actually touch the air without getting frostbite. So when summer finally hits, and my husband asks where we want to eat for dinner I only have one requirement: "Does it have an outdoor patio?" So hit these gorgeous rooftops in these couple weeks of warmth with your beau!
Top of the Strand
Premier Travel named the Top of the Strand one of the Top 10 rooftop bars in the *world*! Date night here will not let you down. $15 cocktails, $9 beers. Find their website, here.
Loopy Droopy Rooftop Bar
$18 - $25; but don’t let the price fool you yet! This bar turns a NYC local favorite into a yummy drink. Choose a seasonal flavor of People’s Pops and then choose either chilled Prosecco or Rosé and BAM! You’ve just found the best summer treat in town. Seriously get these puppies quick to cheers to the end of the good weather and an amazing summer! Find their website, here.
2. Water Fun Date Nights
Summer and water pretty much go hand in hand. Stand-up paddle boarding in a pond or the ocean, renting a sailboat, or having a good ol’ fashioned water balloon fight are sure to help you enjoy the last of these summer vibes.
Free Kayaking at Brooklyn Bridge Park
FREE kayaking. Did we say free? Take in the cityscape and get out on the water for FREE. (Sorry--clearly finding anything in NYC for a bargain price has me incredibly distracted). GO! Check out their website for the times and location, here.
Jet Ski Rentals
Uh HI. This is everything, especially since it fulfills all our Hitch date scene dreams. (Although we could go without the kick in the face. See, here.) But seriously, these are our last opportunities to get out and be active in New York! Plus, I'm sure your boy will appreciate this more active date as opposed to the usual dinner and a movie. Find all info and prices, here.
Rowboats in Central Park
We've all seen 27 Dresses. We all have a deep, mutual, if not semi-unfounded love of the boathouse. Though, it is every bit as romantic as it looks. And hey, the walk through Central Park to get there isn't half bad either on the romance scale. Important note: its cash only friends ($20), and make sure you get there before the evening when they stop letting boats out! Check out the deets, here.
3. Bonfire Themed Dates
This date night is perfectly inspired by the classic summer celebratory action of bonfires and the outdoor dessert of choice: s'mores. Don't be afraid to heat things up, your boo will be asking for s'more!
Go to CAMP
Literally, you are basically going to Camp. Only with awesome s'mores platters and adult beverages (not even just your average adult beverages--we're talking specialty summer themed cocktails). Literally childhood dreams being relived. Check out more about this seriously cool place, here.
Other great s'mores themed dates include: going to Dominique Ansel's bakery in Manhattan (yes, the place that created the cronut) and getting their frozen s'more. Or hit your local grocer and pick up a bag of "Just Light the Bag Coals", a lighter, some graham crackers, mallows, and chocolate bars to create your own smores at the free grills at Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park or Prospect Park. And with either the sunset or the stars in the background, this date will surely be hitting high on the romantic meter.
4. Baseball Game Dates
We shouldn't have to say it, and gosh we hope you've been enjoying America's pastime for the last few months already, but few things are more summer-y than baseball. And baseball in New York is damn fine. Plus, your boy will love this date if you haven't gone to a game together yet!
Two great choices: the Yankees and the Mets. And hey, if you aren't super into the whole game thing itself but are maybe going with a group or trying to do something nice for your man, take it from me, the food scene at Citi Field (where the Mets play) is prettyyy good. Frozen Margaritas. You're Welcome.
5. Dinner Parties or Picnic Dates
My god people how many times do we have to say it?! EAT OUTSIDE WHILE YOU STILL CAN. But seriously, invite 1 or 2 other couples you love and host a dinner party in your backyard or at your local park on a picnic blanket. Summer nights are free-spirited and romantic and worth enjoying for every last bit that there is to offer.
For more inspo on how to host the best summer dinner party, or to see a great spread of meats and cheeses you could pack for that picnic in the park, check out our previous blogpost about it, here! And don't forget to hashtag your dinner with #WandWDinners for us to see!
