W E L C O M E, F A L L !
Boy are we pretty excited that Fall has officially arrived. It is by far our favorite season! We just love the way everything starts to seem more romantic, and everything slows down a bit. In many ways, Fall feels like a big "reset" button as we fall back into place and choose to reflect on some of life's more meaningful moments. When we think of Fall we think of: family, love, food, warmth, comfort, thankfulness, support, sacrifice, beauty, traditions, and so much more. For some, this could be your first Thanksgiving as a married couple, or maybe a first Christmas with a little one. There is no doubt that Fall holds some of the most picturesque moments, and the opportunity for life-long memories, or family traditions that will always center and unite you.
And, you know us, we LOVE celebrating. So I guess it's no suprise that the season with the most celebrations is our favorite season. So this week, to kick-off Fall, we headed to our local Farmer's Market for a one-stop-shopping-trip for everything you need to host Fall Supper this week (whether for just your fam, or for a gathering). With one morning trip, we picked up what we needed for decorations, dinner, and dessert, all fall-style.
We let what was fresh, in season, and available direct our menu. Here's what we came up with:
dark red dahlias
heirloom tomatoes (with balasmic, evoo, S+P)
local aged cheese from The Cheese Guy
spicy heirloom tomato + corn soup
homemade garlic bread
local Descendant Cider Co. pomegranate cider
rosemary, lemon + garlic roasted chicken
seasonal potato medley
brown-sugar roasted carrots
homemade GF apple pie
These heirloom tomatoes man. They inspired us from the very beginning. TELL ME these colors aren't fall?!?! We took the gorgeous deep almost purple ones and grilled them a bit to sweeten their juices up and turned them into an incredible tomato soup. Not your average tomato soup my friend. More like a tomato-ey tortilla soup! Mmm mmmm. And the vibrant eye-catching tomatoes on the right, we kept their natural beauty on center stage and sliced them up with a little drizzle of EVOO and balsamic.
We have to plug our new friends over at Descendant Cider Co. We met them at the farmers market and fell in love with their local, creative blends! I mean hello who doesn't love hard cider in the first place, and when you add flavors like ginger or pomegranate and hibiscus, incredible! Not to mention, you know how much we love a good presentation. Well we couldn't stop loving this gorgeous bottle and packaging. Our favorite was the pomegranate cider they call "Pom Pomme". It was the perfect fall drink for our supper plans.
For decorations we picked up pumpkins and those gorgeous dark dahlias. But we decided to scavage for some plants outside our house to make a wreath--which, in our opinion, is a staple of fall decor. We intentionally grabbed leaves or branches that varied in color and texture. This way the wreath would look more natural and balanced.
For table decor, we started with 2 vases filled with our dark dahlias, intermixed with creamy white candles. We finished with mini pumpkims scattered around, and tucked our napkins under our starter soup bowls.
Of course, we added hand-written nameplates because, what is a dinner without hand-written nameplates?! We ask you. We especially love these gold nameplate holders for everyday ease that we got from William Sonoma, here. (You can also get them in other colors, or even marble!)
Seriously guys, what is better than Fall? What is better than ending a day of hanging with friends with a slice of homemade, gluten-free apple pie?! We hope this post inspires you to get out this weekend, hit your local farmers market, and make something beautiful! We love to see what people are cooking-up or decorating with for a gathering. So don't forget to share it with us!! Take a pic and post it with the hashtag #WANDWDINNERS so we can see! We love fall and we love celebrating its arrival. Cheers!
