Alright alright alright. The 4th is just around the corner, y'all! Whether you're hosting a bash or you're invited to a party but need to bring a dish, we've got an appetizer, a dessert, and a drink all perfectly themed up in that red, white, and blue! And to make it nice and simple to feed a crowd, our recipes are all bite-size. Easy and cute, it's a win-win. Just making these recipes had us craving a big BBQ bash, so thank goodness 4th of July is next week! But beware, your mouth will start watering if you open this post.... so don't say we didn't warn you.
Cocktail: Watermelon Frose
- 1 bottle of your favorite Rosé
- 1 watermelon (or package of already cut watermelon if you want to make it really easy!)
- 1 lime
- Blueberries for garnish
Pour the bottle of rosé into a pan or bowl (whatever will fit in your freezer!) Freeze overnight. Cube about 1/3 of your watermelon and freeze overnight. (If you don't freeze overnight about 3 hours will work!) Once they are frozen scoop watermelon into a glass, fill it about halfway. Then scoop out your frozen rosé--we used an ice cream scoop and added about 2 scoops. Squeeze lime over the top and garnish with blueberries. You'll probably want a spoon and straw to enjoy this!
Appetizer: Caprese Salad Skewers
- Mozzarella Balls
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Fresh Basil
- Balsamic Vinegar
Add mozzarella to skewers. Fold a basil leaf in half and add it to the skewer next. Then, add tomato to the skewer. Make a balsamic vinegar reduction: add a cup of balsamic vinegar to a small sauce pan, bring to a boil and then simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally so it doesn't burn. Let cool then pour reduction over the skewers and serve!
Dessert: Mini Strawberry Pastries
- 1 cup sliced stawberries
- 1 package of Puff Pastry Cups
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Blueberries for garnish
- Whipped cream (if not serving right away we would recommend whipping your own cream so it doesn't melt as fast)
Slice strawberries, add sugar and stir well, then set them aside in the fridge. The longer you leave them in the fridge the more syrup-y they will get! So, depending on how sweet + syrup-y you like them, plan accordingly. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake pastry cups for 20 minutes. When they're done, use a spoon to push in the centers of the cups. Add strawberries to the centers. Finish with whipped cream and a blueberry for the full red white and blue effect!
Well there you have it! What are you doing for the 4th of July? Are you hosting a big party? BBQ'ing with the fam? Keeping it lowkey with a couple friends and going to your favorite spot to watch the fireworks? We're all about celebrating (as you know), and 10 times out of 10 we live for the seasonal, special foods that come with those celebrations. Strawberry shortcake... watermelon everything... it's the perfect way to spend a hot summer night. There's just something so nostalgic about waiting all year to eat those summer foods. And what better, easy appetizer for the hot days of summer than those refreshing caprese skewers! We could legit eat those all day....
