Yes. OK. Yes. We all know our favorite holiday around here is Cinco de Mayo. It may or may not beat out Christmas. We won't say on the record. But.... if you're wondering where we'll be today, it'll be anywhere we can have this spicy cucumber margarita in hand. Refreshing, with a kick. That's how we like our margs. Nothing too sweet or sugary or high-fructose-corn-syrup-y. No way. Real ingredients. Fresh. And a little kick at the back of your throat. Now, if you haven't already, you better call up your girlfriends and tell them to come over asap with that guac after work for these margs because, damnit, it's Cinco de Mayo...
Recipe: (serves 2)
- 4 oz tequila
- 2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1 oz Cointreau
- 1 tbsp simple syrup (or agave or honey; add more if you like it sweeter!)
- 1 cucumber, sliced into thick coins
- 1 jalapeño, sliced thin
- Salt (we love Maldon's!)
Add tequila, lime juice, cointreau, and simple syrup, and cucumber to a blender. Pulse for 1 minute, or until the mixture is smooth. Strain out the liquid into a cocktail shaker. Add the jalapeño slices, and muddle until the margarita has your desired level of heat. (Keep in mind, the longer the jalapenos sit in the mixture, the more they will release their flavor!) Add a handful of ice, and shake in your cocktail shaker. Dip glasses upside down in simple syrup (or water) then dip into salt. Finally, strain into serving glasses that have been rimmed with salt and filled with ice. Top with optional garnishes like slices of lime, jalapeño, or cucumber. Enjoy!
There you have it! Refreshing. Citrusy. With a little kick. We can't get enough. This is usually our go-to when we order a marg so we had to bring it home for Cinco de Mayo. If you make this bad boy, don't forget to share it with us!
