Have you heard of a milk bath before? Maybe you're wondering what the **** is a milk bath?! Well, it's exactly what it sounds like. A bath with milk and warm water. Now before you start getting all weird on us, this has been a beauty secret going alllllllll the way back to Cleopatra. We all know how beautiful she was. She used to soak in milk baths on the reg. Now, if our girl Cleo was doing it, we know we should be too. Milk baths are loaded with benefits for your skin, hair, mind, and more. They're also extremely aesthetically pleasing. So what are you waiting for?! If you're doing your friday in tonight with a glass a red and a good book (or, let's be honest, netflix) then you need this spa like treatment, tonight! See for yourself...
- 2 cups Coconut Milk or Regular Cow's Milk
- 1/2 cup Oatmeal
- 1 cup Epsom Salt
- 1/4 cup Baking Soda
- 1/4 cup dried Lavender (or add about 10 drops of essential oils to the bath)
Grind oatmeal until it is a fine powder. Mix together oats, epsom salt, baking soda and lavender. Add dry ingredients to a warm bath as the water is running to mix it together. Then pour in coconut milk. Enjoy!
This bath is loaded with benefits! So much so, that it's easier to show it it a bullet point list.
- Coconut milk promotes healthy skin and combats dryness on many levels.
- Epsom salts help relieve sore muscles and aches and pains.
- Baking soda helps calm irritated or dry skin.
- Oatmeal relieves itchy skin and helps to lock in moisture.
- Has an overall soothing affect, relaxes tired feet, softens hair, reduces skin irritations while being gentle on sensitive skin.
If you opt for cow's milk, the benefits are endless as well! Not only is cow's milk an ultra moisturizer for the skin, but it's lactic acid gently exfoliates the skin, nourishes the hair (milk has been used in hair treatments for years!), aides in anti-aging (thanks to milk's proteins, minerals, and vitamins that not only help reduce existing wrinkles but also help stop new ones in their tracks) -- it's no wonder Cleopatra regularly sat in milk baths! So whether you use coconut or cow's milk, the benefits are endless!
