Whether you call it mulled wine, glühwein, vin fiert, or glintwein, countries all across Europe have been making this hot spiced wine drink for centuries, keeping them warm during the cold winter months. If you visit most European cities during the holidays, you’ll find Christmas markets overflowing with mulled wine as if they ran solely off cups of the stuff. It’s warm, holiday-spiced, and just sweet enough. And did we mention it’s insanely easy?! Simply throw these ingredients together and before you know it, you’ll have the perfect evening cocktail. We recommend pairing it with an evening of christmas present wrapping, or a classic holiday movie, or both! See below for this easy, classic recipe…
What You’ll Need
1 bottle/750mL red wine (we used cabernet sauvignon)
1 orange, sliced
1/4 cup brandy
3 cinnamon sticks
4 star anise (alternatively; you could use 1 tsp fresh ginger, or 1/2 tsp allspice)
1/4 cup honey
optional garnish: more orange slices, star anise, cinnamon sticks
Add all ingredients to a large pot; give a good stir.
Heat on low, for about 25 mins, stirring occasionally, until honey is incorporated and the wine is warm. Feel free to give it a taste!
Pour into mugs and add any garnishes you like! Enjoy!
