Ok it’s almost three weeks into 2019—How are we all doing on our New Year’s resolutions?! Scared to answer that question? Don’t worry, whether you have fallen off the goals wagon, or whether you’re killing it and staying strong, we’ve got the perfect easy detox fresh-pressed juice recipe for you! Its simple ingredients include kale, apple, lemon and ginger. As a superfood, the benefits of kale are out of this world! Loaded with antioxidants, it keeps your heart healthy and lowers cholestorol and has insane amounts of vitamins A, K and C. In fact, 1 cup of kale has more vitamin C than 1 orange! Juicing the apple not only makes this detox juice sweet and delicious, but it also provides you with energy to keep you going throughout the day. Apples are also incredibly supportive for your liver, as apples detox your liver and gallbladder, and are rich in phytonutrients + antioxidants. Apples have even been shown to help those with neuro-degenerative diseases like Alzheimers and Parkinsons. Lemon juice is also one of the best aides for your immune system, helping you ward off colds and the flu all season long! And lastly, ginger is another source of amazing health benefits. It can relieve tension headaches, help remove lactic acid from your body, help reduce stress that your body is holding onto, reduce blood sugar, and is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Need we say more?! Let’s help achieve our 2019 goals by helping our body be its best, healthiest, most efficient self!
What You’ll Need
1 bunch of kale, cut into pieces off the vein
1 lemon, skinned
1 knob of fresh ginger (if you don’t have that, you can use 1 tsp of frozen or refrigerated chopped ginger as well!)
1 apple, cut into large chunks
Start by making sure you’ve given all your fruits + veggies a good deep clean since we will be using the entirety of them. Especially with apples, be sure to use soap when cleaning, as many produce providers coat their fruit in wax to preserve their appearance and keep mold off. Once you’ve cleaned and cut your produce into smaller pieces, turn on your juicer and use it according to its instructions, placing pieces in one at a time, allowing it to get all the juice it can out of your fruit and veggies. Once you’re done, sip and enjoy!
Juicers We Love
When it comes to juicing, you want to be sure to invest in a “slow-juicer”, a “cold-pressed” juicer or a “masticating” juicer. What this means, is that your juicer simply and slowly grinds your fruit and veggies until its gotten every bit of juice expelled. In contrast, other juicers use heat to speed up the process and don’t really work hard at expelling the juice naturally. In doing this, these other juicers lose a lot of the health benefits of enjoying a “raw” juice. So be sure to prioritize a slow, masticating juicer! (If you don’t have a juicer, and can’t afford to fit one in the budget, try blending all these ingredients in your Vitamix on a high setting for a few minutes. If it still seems a little fibrous, use a strainer, and enjoy!) Here are a few great juicer options we love:
