Happy Friday Friends! Today, we are introducing a new series that we will be doing on our blog called the Wedding Spotlight where we will be interviewing our brides + grooms about their wedding day to give you all an authentic slice of #realweddings and #realbrides. We're stoked about this because we are obsessed with every one of our kickass couples! And that is certainly true for our first wedding spotlight couple: Mat + Alex. They are literally the essence of kickass and cool vibes, and their wedding day perfectly reflected them as a couple.
Venue: the Aurora restaurant in Williamsburg, NYC

One of the things we loved most about Mat + Alex's wedding, was how intimate they kept it. Instead of doing a large wedding, they opted for a smaller guestlist and rented out a restaurant they loved in Brooklyn. How authentic to them and their lifestyle! Hear what they had to say about making that decision...
Q: When envisioning your wedding what was the one most important thing to you?
Mat + Alex: I wanted to feel comfortable! I knew myself well enough to know that if my wedding was somewhere completely unfamiliar and I was so out of my routine that whole day, I wouldn't feel comfortable and that was important to me. Matt and I opted to have our wedding in Brooklyn since we've lived here for years and love it here. I started off the morning of my wedding with a run through Fort Greene park and I LOVED being able to go about my routine. It definitely helped me stay calm throughout it all. We also opted for an intimate ceremony versus a big bash. When we talked about the size of our wedding, we kept coming back to the point that we wanted to be able to look at each person there and have memories, moments when we confided in that person, and relationships with everyone there.
Q: What was the most stressful part of the planning process?
Mat + Alex: Finding my wedding dress! I knew a classic "sparkle and lace" dress just wasn't for me. I also knew I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a dress I would wear once and then chop up and put in a picture frame or keep in my closet forever.
The wedding party got ready at one of the hottest hotels in BK -- the Williamsburg Hotel. It was the perfect background for this urban couple! Exposed brick and kickass views?! What more could you want?! Also how GREAT is this first look which not only had 180 degrees views of the East River and Williamsburg landscape but also a super HOT look at our bride Alex?!
Q: What was your favorite part of the wedding day?
Mat + Alex: Definitely celebrating with all our family and friends. I loved seeing everyone we loved in the same place, and I know Matt and I felt so honored they were there to celebrate us. Also, the groomsmen did a Magic Mike inspired dance and I didn't hate it so there's that too.
Mat + Alex's style is quality minimalism. They love sleek lines and simplicity, but everything with quality pieces and ingredients. So whether its design or food, everything for them should have meaning--nothing is done or added if it isn't intentional and thoughtful. So their sleek and minimal style yielded clean green garlands that ran down the table, and simple gold lettering nameplates. And with this intention behind everything they do, it's no wonder they picked one of the best wedding food meals we've ever seen at a wedding! And, their design of the reception space with long communal tables further represented the importance they placed on connection and intimacy and friends and family on their wedding day.
Lastly, Mat + Alex rented an old school NYC taxi for their send-off and it was the most perfect and romantic way to exit their Brooklyn wedding! I mean seriously, we just can't get enough!!
It really was the perfect Brooklyn wedding...
Much love to our couple Mat & Alex! It was a dream working with you guys.
